checking rear end on F250??
The VIN code on my 2001 F250 states 4.30 rear but I also heard it would be posted on the differential itself. Well- I crawled under there and looked and did not see anything- Where would it be stamped?

My '03 has an aluminum tag with the code embossed on it on the rear diff. cover. It's held on to the right hand side by two of the cover bolts.

The rear ends are always coded for some reason, and just trying to guess from the codes can be confusing.... Check the numbers on the front axel, they post the gearing clearly up there, no codes, the ratio will be stamped right on the tag.... The rear would obviously be the same as the front so youd have your answer.
