And found injector # 6 loose and/or unplugged. It may have just been lose when I pulled the cover off, but I know I didnt unsnap it. Glad I went poking.
The truck is running noticeably smoother today. I used to have an intermittent miss/vibration. I am wondering if this was it. I never thought anything of it because there was no CEL so I just told myself "Its just a diesel. They vibrate."
I'm guessing you knocked it loose when removing the valve cover. I've accidentally knocked a plug loose putting a valve cover back on. The truck ran rough and threw a CEL right away.
Does that amount of smoke look normal to you guys? I have seen other videos and there wasnt that much smoke in most of them. At least not to my eyes, but none of the other videos had great cameras.
Don't get too caught up with the smoke. About 150,000 miles ago, I decided to try 4 different name brand diesel oils while running an open CCV. What I noticed was, that my engine would smoke from very little to a whole lot depending on many variables like, outside temps, engine temps, brand of oil, miles on oil (the odor especially changed with the miles). Today with over 410,000 miles, my engine will still smoke either less or more than what your video shows based on these variables.
I had UOA's from Blackstone done for each of them after what I consider a normal 5,000 mile run. All of them came back just fine. I wouldn't worry about the smoke if I were you. The only time to worry about smoke is when there is pressure behind it.
Doesn't look too bad. Here is how much smoke comes out of my ccv mod. Its kind of hard to see in the video, the sun is starting to go down. CCV mod blow-by - YouTube
