This time its not electrical!

Ok im back. Heres the issue, transmission exploded while driving. (c6) swapped trans and all the related parts with an np435. Everythings together and what not.
The issue is the starter wont crank the flywheel at all. Its brand new as of today. The bendix sinks all the way into place but wont spin it. Tried spinning the motor manually but it wont bugde. However the engine would rotate before the transmission was installed. (no its not in gear lol) im lost here. I would say the engines locked up with the last time it ratated to the trans being on was only a few hours. Any ideas???

If it is a 351W or 302, did you change out the starter? There's a different starter for the autos vs manual transmissions. Dunno about the 300 nor 460. But the 351M/400 just have one starter.

300 should match the 302 and 351W, 460 some use different auto vs manual.

I doubt your motor locked up.

Did you get the transmission used? I think even the NP435 you put on might be toast if it won't turn. But, you said it won't even turn in neutral.

Puzzling.

Pull the starter back out and see if the motor will turn. If it doesn't, unhook the transmission and see what happens.

EDIT:

Even better than unhooking the transmission! Push in the clutch. That'll make things a lot easier (or it should... ).

Are you sure that the transmission actually IS in neutral - can he output shaft be turned by hand?

It could be that two gears are engaged at the same time, with the shifter and/or selectors out of position - if so, the trans will be locked solid.

You'll notice a power difference with the manual trans - I swapped from a C6 to a 4-speed last year.

The trans out put shaft spins free. Could it be the pressure plate is too big for the bell housing? As in being wedged between the flywheel and the bell housing. The pressure plate is from an early 90's sbf mustang.

And how much of a power difference should be noticed?

I wouldn't have thought so, but I don't know. Are the flywheel, bellhousing & other parts all correct? It sounds like it might be time to start unbolting again.

With my 351W, I got a good improvement on acceleration, but particularly with power pulling up hills. It seems the more that was asked of the engine, the more the C6 would rob.

But I gained only about 1 mpg if running empty @ 55mph.
I think towing/loaded/working, the mpg gain would be significantly more, but I don't have those figures.

The bell housing is a small block ford bell. The flywheel's for a 351w which is what i have, however if this trans takes a certain flywheel then i could have the wrong one. But i think its time to unbolt stuff too and just make sure.

No, the flywheel just needs to match the engine - the trans doesn't care, as long as the bellhousing is correct.

Ok trans is back off and everything is spinning freely again. Time to get a new clutch set but will a clutch set for an 83 351w work on a trans from a 78 79 300 il6? I have the original pressure plate. Its the old flat head style, so will or should a new style work?

So what happened? Did the splines not engage? was the ring gear/clutch diaphragm hitting the bellhousing?

Im pretty sure the pressure plate was pinched in there. I loosened the bell housing bolts and it spun freely. So new clutch set..
