The Ole dreaded check brake system message

Well the batteries are asking to go into retirement. I am getting the check brake system message.

I am strongly considering OEM as they have been good. They have lasted me 4 years and alot of hot and heavy towing...

So opinions wanted.

OEM have also been great for me Senix and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them, if or when I need them. Be sure to let us know what you decide to go with.

What do you have; 68-70k trouble free miles? Stick with OEM without hesitation.

Just shy of 72K and somewhere are 1875 hours.

That is why I am thinking of sticking with the OEM.

Definitely OEM. I replaced mine 6 weeks ago. I did find out that there are 2 types of OEM's that will work on our 2008 trucks. Make sure you acquire the BRSD part number. I was first given the BR and they work, just lighter in the pad. The best price for Motorcraft brake pads that I found was from:

Motorcraft Premium and Super duty brake pads - Diesel Filters,Additives, brake rotors, and brake pads for Chevy, Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks and these are the blue pads. Mine took the BRSD 1069's all the way around. Some trucks use the BRSD 1068's on the front. I have a very early Job 1 and attribute some descrepencies to this.

My brakes are fine..it is the batteries that are getting weak. I think I can get alot more out of the pads at the rate I use my brakes.

My batteries are getting bad too. My truck gave me "Check Reverse Sensors" last weekend. Had a slight hesitation at startup. No issues since. I left flashers & parking lights on for several hours on a job.

Redux "Check Brake System"

Truck was a little slow to crank this morning. Then it did crank & got the "check brake system" message. Brakes seem to be working fine.

Both batteries replaced once already. Serviced them myself a few months back. Guess I'll plan on servicing again this week with the long weekend coming up (Unless forced to deal with sooner than I want to ).

My last truck had the factory battery for 8 solid years before it gave up the ghost. Another +1 for a Ford factory replacement.

My oem batteries did not last long at all. They gave out just after 36,000. After that I could not bring myself to get two more so I bought BOSH. They have been great.

I am glad some people are having good luck with the oem batteries. I wonder if the FL heat had anything to do with my problems?

I think heat does kill the batteries the same as extreme cold.

I may catch heat for this but my OEM's went south right after I bought my used 08 about a year ago. I bought replacements at Walmart for $200 installed. 3 year replacement warranty. I figure for that price I can keep replacing them if they do fail in the 3 years. I called Ford and they wanted around $220 each.

I'm at 138k and 3800 hours, batteries still going strong. Keeping them clean and corrosion off the terminals always helps them stay alive. When I replace them, will go with higher CCA and availability.
