Hey folks! I just got back from the junkyard where I saw a few dentsides with decent bumpers that I wondered if I could put on my 70. I read on the other Ford Truck forum that the front bumpers are interchangeable, but the rear bumpers would need some modification. Can anyone tell me what sort of modification they would need? Thanks!
Nice! So, it sounds like the framerail width isn't a problem, it's just that the dentside framerails don't stick out back far enough so you need longer bolts and a spacer to make it work?? So no drilling or bracket making required??

You cannot use 1973/79 Styleside rear bumper brackets on anything prior to 1973 regardless of the frame rail width. As you can see, there are dents with 33 1/2" frame rails.
I think the front bumpers from a dentside will bolt on, up to 77 anyway. Seems like the 78-79 front bumpers looked different.
Those 64-72 rear bumper brackets are pricey unless someone is repopping them now. I always got $100-$150 for a set of them on ebay and have seen them go close to $200.
Now this could be bad information but I got a rear bumper from a bumper shop once and they said it was from a 78-79 Bronco but should be the same. Of course the brackets ended up being wrong but I scavenged a set off a 66 F-250 and that bumper bolted right on a 72 F-100 I was fixing up.
You could make one fit from a 73 and up but you would have to drill new holes, weld the other ones shut and paint or rechrome it.
Ok, from this info and some more digging around on the web, it sounds like the frame rails of the bumpsides are all 33.5" in the back, then they went to ~38" in 73 except for "1973/77 F250 4WD (High Boys) / 1973/79 F350 Regular Cabs on the 140" wheelbase."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like I have two options if I want a dentside bumper: 1) I could do like Kenny, who (from what I can tell) grabbed the bumper AND brackets from a 76 and bolted the brackets to the framerails and made up for the width difference using longer bolts and a spacer. or 2) I could grab JUST the bumper from a "1973/77 F250 4WD (High Boys) / 1973/79 F350 Regular Cabs on the 140" wheelbase."
Does that all sound right? Thanks again for all the help fellas!
i have aq 69 camper special and the rear bumper was crap and i had a neighbor who owed me money and he was a welder so he made me a bumper that has a two inch square reciever hitch and the rest is two inch thick steel stock all solid steel it was heavier than hec to put in but hell for stout.
