possible engine failure?

I think my brother broke my engine:
He has been driving it for days with out keeping it above E and he finally ran it out of fuel on way to gas station. He called AAA and they sent a tow truck to help him. They tried to start it with Ether and I think they damaged it. I just installed fresh new Sears Die Hards and it just kept trying to crank but it made a couple of loud POPs.
What could be wrong?? engine has full oil and fuel is def in fuel bowl

I'd try to jump it off or charge the batteries. If the cranking volts get below 10.5v the idk won't fire the injectors.

Loud pops are not good.

if it is dead, i would send aaa the bill for putting ether to a diesel. There should not even be ether on a aaa truck.

Is the emergency fuel switch tripped on the passenger side floor board?

Yea loud pops are not good, there is no good way to bleed air from the lines on these engines (im assuming you have a 7.3?) other than to keep cranking untill they fire. Since the AAA numbskulls used either and who knows how much, it could have shattered some rings or an injector, or a valve. hard to say. but i wouldnt take any major steps unless all the simple problems have been ruled out, fuel delivery ect.

I would not stress... They didnt ruin your motor.

Get ICP pressures when cranking. More then likely its a fuel pump or related issue.

General FYI:

If you run out of fuel do not try to restart before you prime the fuel system. Turn the key to on position and the fuel pump will run for approximately 20 seconds and shut off. Do this three times before you try to start.

Cranking the engne over before fuel system is primed will just wear down the batteries and when the system finally does get primed you may wind up with a no start due to weak batteries.

just a little fyi: my brother was the one who sprayed my intake/AFE filter with a whole bottle of Ether, not tow truck driver
He had heard me talk about ether before, not realizing I was talking about it being bad for a SD pickup truck vs a big rig. The two truck driver just towed it back to my house.
the shop has my tuck and will hopefully call me tomorrow
