I had a quick question for you all... I was wondering what exactly the upgraded parts are on a D66 turbo from Beans....
To me it simply looks like a different wheel and housing and that is about it. Are there modifications done to the exhaust side as well? It still utilizes the same innards as the stock turbo (bearings/shaft/seals/ and what not?)
I was wondering what exactly the big difference is. If it is simple as replacing the housing and wheel to make it a D66 I might go ahead and do it with the stage 1.5's this fall. If there is more too it I might just leave the turbo alone... I just rebuilt it, but 30% more airflow is not a bad option. I however do not want to buy the entire turbo... If I can do it by just the housing and impeller then heck yeah I'm in.
Can I order the parts and do it myself or is this a "you need to send us your turbo" deal where I am charged to have them do what I am more than capabable of doing myself. I have never ordered anything from them but from what I have heard around the net they are a very reputable and knowledgable company.
Well this is good info to know. So from the sounds of it I'm not going to be able to purchase the parts I need to do it myself... I'm sure as heel not dropping 1200+ on a turbo when I just rebuilt mine. Nothing wrong with it I was just wondering if there were any upgrade I could bolt on for it to increase CFM... I am fine with how it spools as is.
Talyn... how is a van turbo better than the D66? I have heard the exact opposite but would def like to hear why you think so. If I were to find a van turbo can I rob parts off of it and put them towards my rebuilt turbo?
Essentially what parts are on a van turbo that make it better than our stock, and better than the D66. I guess I never really understood the concept of putting abetter turbo in a van vs a truck... vans haul people trucks haul heavy...
What does a little fab work mean.... If I am replacing mounts/uppipes/ and so on forget it. I just bought a deleted pedestal and rebuilt the turbo, I was hoping there were a few bolt on upgrades that would increase flow but if not I'm not going to be picking up a new turbo... I will run 1.5 sticks on it till I need a new one. I think with an IC and water/meth injection my EGTs will remain in a safe zone. Strictly doing this for towing...not looking for a crazy HP numbers but I would like a bit more when towing.
To be quite honest I'd like to be in the neighborhood of what production trucks can push today.. high 300's on HP and double that in TQ... if its not too much to ask. But if its going to destroy the motor quickly then I'll rethink my process
This is what I'm doing for now. Unless I remember where i planted that damn money tree.
Agree cant do a full turbo setup...
Did you do your 140 V IDM yourself? I hate electronics and will probably end up ruining the unit if I tried... Know anyone that I can send it to that can do the job clean?
