hey guys a have a 2012 with 4500 miles gas powered e350 super duty and it smells like unburnt fuel in the cab witch is very bad for our medics witch are in those trucks 24 hr shifts we voided the warrenty already wen we opened the valve covers to add a lil HP so we cant take it back to dealer just wanting to know any ideas???
added air intake, low rmp performance chip, new injectors, and full exsaust
but we did the same to our other 1 that we bought same add ons its also a 2012 and that one is fine. we buy 2 new 1s every yr same add ons on all of them
We have aftermarket goodies on our ambulance. Some of them like the grill came on it. We had some problems with it and Ford said that the grill didn't meet their specs and warranty wouldn't cover for anything related to air flow. The big question here is why are they running a gasser ambulance. Diesel is way better plus in our state we are not allowed to use gassers. Sorry can't help with the OP's question.
The gas engine is the only choice for the E-Series ambulances now. They announced the change in 2009 to begin with the 2010 model year. The diesel isn't offered any longer because it doesn't meet EPA requirements for emissions.
I cant help either other than it may be a fuel leak or bad injector o-ring. I would go over the whole fuel system and recheck it for leaks or a bad injector. Ive seen when the injector bodies crack when they are intalled, there just plastic...shot in the dark I guess.
Also when did they switch to a no diesel option, I maintain a fleet of E-350 ambulances and they all have the 6.0 in them and they are 2010, I will have to check the manufacturer date they come back in.
the no diesel part is right for the e series but only for ambulances but its a huge mistake an its started with 2011 they still had the coice but 2012 no longer have a choice for ambulance fleets since they run 24/7 getting veery verry poor mpg for diesel and ok in gassers but i guess lol nd warrenty for ford voids as soon as u turn one bolt from the valve covers but back to the subj. not even the dealer knew all systems are good no leaks on the evap sys.or fuel, and to get the good goodies u need lots of permits not to expencive but a permit for every single add on its rediculus , ill stay posted let u guys knw what i find
and sarge they should be 7.3 they give LOTTTSSS less probs u should bring that up to ur bosses and what company u work for?? if u dont me asking?? cuz my comp. are *******s about it and dnt let my say but my name says it all lol
emission wise gassers all the way ur right but its so much hassel they brake down waay to much we also have 2 09 e series one wont start and the other one cant seem to stay cool.the gass eng bays are rediculously hot and thats y they dnt last craked heads i tink in bout 200k miles do to all of the **** they put up with high rpms overheating lol the fuse box on one of the units was deformed do to heat
pros and cons i guess lol

Sarge
I'm not sure where Navistar stood on EPA credits when it comes to the 6.0L. It may be that they had enough EPA credits for Ford to manufacture some 2010 models with the 6.0.....not sure. The links to the story about it from Ford are in my post above.
Also, if the E-Series cutaway chassis is considered an incomplete vehicle, it could be that the chassis was manufactured in '09 but the ambulance conversion was done and sold as a 2010 model.
