I think I might take a peek tomorrow am and if it looks like a nice quick easy job I'll take it off and give it a clean. This trip would be a good test to see if it works right..... hopefully I don't make it worse!
I looked for the work order last night to give you that part # and I couldn't find it to save my a$$ but it sounds like you got some quality help while I was at home. Cleaning it may very well solve the problem. It is a VERY easy job so it's certainly worth a try. According to your symptoms I assure you it IS your problem, the EXACT same thing my truck was doing.
So I just checked that sensor and it was a real pain in the a$$ to get out. Was stuck in there pretty good! Anyways, there was no chunks of crud stuck to it at all but the plug going into the sensor was a little sketchy... the terminals were still all intact but the plug itself was cracked pretty good. Ford has a sensor and a pigtail and all that for the awesome price of $200. Crooks..... but I want to get it in to try it on the trip tomorrow. Will let you all know how it ends!
Well..... did the camping trip and that bloody stumble/studder is still there. Even after blowing the $200 on the sensor. Brought the trailer home and I'm headed into Ford in the AM for a third time..... this time I'm gonna run the ***** outta my truck for an hour with the trailer behind it and then I'll go pick up one of their techs for a happy-ride..... This is really starting to pi$$ me off that I have to go back in there AGAIN and pay them to do what should have been done months ago... and that's if they can admit there is a problem. I am sure they will find the problem now though seeing how it is off warranty and all.
so the Speed sensor didnt fix it???Guess Not Usually you can Ohm them out and Know good from Bad
Any DTC?????
Whats the Edge Gauges say????
Nope, speed sensor did nothing. Only code I get is the usual P0528 which it has had for quite awhile and everyone says it isn't anything to worry about. I had cleared all codes and disconnected batteries before I left on the trip as well. It's driving me nuts cuz it is was worse this trip and I know it's going to leave me stranded somewhere I don't get cell reception.
The whole trip I monitored absolutely everything of importance.... ficm, fuel pressure, egt, voltage, eot, ect, tranny temp, and boost.
I did solve one mystery item though.... the truck used to make this god awful screech when towing up a long grade for any length of time with the throttle down.... I had thought it was possibly the bearings going bad in the turbo but since I put on the new cac boots and ccv reroute it didn't make that screech at all. So that was a bit of a relief!
Does the Mis fire seam to happen at random???? If so the start and Idel the truck and get in the engine bay and start wiggling all the wires around try to make it Misfire
The fan code can cause a No-Start so maybe it could cause it to Cut out
If I had a shop and you brought the truck in and I couldnt find anything that would cause Misfire I would try to change the FanClutch and see if that helps
If a Bad Fan Clutch can cause a NO-START I dont see why it wouldnt cause the truck to Cut Out
you can try to unplug the fan clutch and see if it stops Misfire to
Its Obvious to me that code is there and there is a Problem with Fan so IMO it needs to be addressed ASAP Regaurdless and you might Kill 2 Birds with 1 stone

The clutch fan is working exactly as it should so I know it is not the problem.... as for the code the truck had it previously and M-chan has already mentioned a few times that this code shows up frequently... especially on vehicles with remote starters or alarms (of which I have both). I have read about it on other forums as well. The last time the truck was in and they could not find a problem the tech took a stab in the dark and replaced the Exhaust Back-pressure sensor and it made no difference at all. ICP & IPR I have no idea..... I had the 8 gauge layout on and they are not on there currently. I have no idea if I can even monitor these 2 items (still fairly new to this monitor system) as I have never really looked for it on my Insight. I am taking the truck and trailer for a nice long 2 hour drive tomorrow before I go to Ford (to hopefully help reproduce the problem for the technician) and I will see if I can monitor the ICP and IPR%.
From what I have heard, seen and read.... when the ICP Sensor goes bad it is noticeable at idle and it's an "all-the-time" kind of thing. My issue only happens after at least an hour or 2 of driving at highway speeds.... and is much more noticeable with my trailer attached (8,000lbs). I am worried that it may be a transmission problem or something. It only seems to do it when warm and at highway speeds (so between the top 2 gears in the automatic transmission).
Was into Ford today to see about the results from the joyride me and the technician went on last week. I called them twice to get the results and nobody ever called me back so I thought I would just stop in and surprise them! Service manager took me into the back so we could both talk to the technician who went along with his IDS system that day. He said the IDS din't pick up anything..... again! They had called some kind of "Ford Hotline" and they recommended re-flashing the PCM with some new flash that addressed issues with a stutter when the cruise control is activated....... it didn't fix the problem either.
The other day however, I was sitting in my truck and decided to rev the engine (while in park) up to about 3300rpm. I noticed the engine stuttered/missed between 2000rpm and 3000rpm. I told the tech about it and he looked at the service manager and tried it out for himself. He said that was the most helpful info they had gotten to date to help diagnose the problem. He hooked up their IDS system and noticed that when the stutter happened between 2000rpm and 3000rpm the ICP (or IPR.... I don't recall 100%) voltage was all over the place where as it should stay constant. He figures the screen may be damaged or have some crud on it or he said it may be a dummy plug or standpipe issue. It has an appointment on the 5th of September to get fixed.... hopefully!
I didn't want to drag up this thread again but the title is exactly the same issue I was having and if there is a fix I like to see it resolved and posted in the thread. It sucks when folks post a problem and just leave the topic open even after they find a solution. Stay tuned!!!
Probably the ICP voltage. My truck did the same thing. Ran fine at times with proper voltage. Other times jumping all over the place. My current configuration with the new sensor involved taking apart the replacement pigtail so I could make a better pigtail with correct gauge wire, longer lengths of wire so the spliced harness connections were removed from the heat source, tons of heat protection for the IPR, ICP, and the separated wire harnesses. I know it is overboard, but I am tired of messing with this problem point on the early 6.0 All good so far.
