my transmission went out on my 96 explorer 2 wheel drive 4.0 Ltr...Now I ordered a new transmission and I went to install it and it wont push all the way in...now I got it really close and and I pulled it all the way in with the bolts and everything was good BUT i cant spin the crank with my hands...now should I be able to OR do I have to put a wrench on the crank to spin it all, and does it have to be in any sort of gear or does it matter since the drive shaft isnt connected yet??? any help would be helpful.
you may want to make sure the torque converter is seated all the way in. ive seen them hang up and give problems like this before. with all the tension between the tranny and motor pushing on eachother the engine will be hard to turn. so this may be the problem. hope this was helpful
If the converter is not seated properly into the shaft you could have a real problem if you try to start it up. You should be able to pull the tranny to the engine without relying on the bolts to do it. If you can't turn the crank by hand back the tranny out and start over again. Set the converter in place and turn it by hand until it "clunks" into place. then make sure it doesn't move while carefully lining up the tranny to the engine. You obviously don't think things are "quite right" now so use patience and don't take chances. Best of luck.....
ok...I got it in but now I have a small problem...the overdrive light flashes after it shifts into 2nd gear...if u drive around in first it wont flash...and also the speed doesnt show up on the spedo..now I have tried 2 new speed sensors and neither 1 has worked...what else could it be??? I have check all fuses and reset the comp.
found out what it was...when you get a new speed sensor it doesnt come with the gear on it...and since the new tranny didnt have a sensor there wasnt a gear either..but we got it all straight.
