Ok My father in law asked me to help hims out with a tuner for his truck its a 2011 f150 ford platinum with the 5.0 6speed auto trans i believe. he is looking for a tuner to kinda help with the throttle response and the trans shift he says that the 6speed auto its kinda sluggish and like to tweek it a little he has no other mods and probally will not do any other mods and i dont know a lot about gas motors as i drive a powerstroke and im into the diesels alot so i know some goood knowledged ppl will chime in and give me some info. i read about the sct a little but idk if thats the route he should go or not? some help would be awsome what u recomend if your running it if the tuner changed the shifting any etc. thanks in advance
As for guys in the 2009+ section with tunes...they are not as widespread since it can interfere with warranty claims. Drivetrain claims actually. A broken window switch shouldnt be a problem.
Mike @ 5 Star personally owns a 2011 5.0L truck that he tows with frequently. He has some 20,000+ miles on that truck with his tunes. Mike is also a site sponsor here.
Do a little research, Mike @ 5 Star is one of the best custom tune writers for gas around. He has tons of experience & has the best costomer service around. Try a search & you will see. The SCT is probably the best tuner for the powerstroke also up to 2008
thanks mcdavis 116 views and one post? ha come on need some more info and maby personal experiences?
+1 for Mikes tunes, and agreed with Chandler- not many want to mess with the warranty. I love mine, shifts great, more power. I had to put mine back to stock for inspection a few months back due to emissions testing and I couldn't wait to put the tune back in it! It does make a difference
What tunes did you get? It was a must for me with bigger tires, exhaust, speedo and shift points. I'm very happy, sorry you aren't crazy about it. I can't stand driving mine stock now.
5 Star is the best bang for your buck upgrade you can get. The gains are unbelievable, shift point are awesome. If you dont like the tune completely Mike will tweak it until your 100% satified for free. The econmy tune is not the best but the Performance/Tow tunes are fantastic.
I'd stick with a tuner that uses the SCT format. It is by far the most popular tuning platform for our trucks. I've read nothing but great things about 5 Star and I like the fact he developed the Ecoboost tunes while dragging around a large 5th wheel trailer vs a dyno tune.

I bought an Edge for my 2008, and it did absolutely all of nothing. Then I spent even more money, and turned it into a Gryphon, and it did the same thing. Nothing. Sure, it changed my shift points, but that was it. Stock 1/4 mile times were identical to the performance tune 1/4 mile times. That was MY experience, and around $800.00 total for the Edge, then the change to Gryphon.
Maybe it's different with the 5.0, but truthfully, my 5.0 is what the 5.4 should have been IMO.
I had an Edge turned Gryphon on my '06 5.4 and it gave me much better pickup and better mileage while towing. I have an Edge on my '11 Ecoboost and I can't really comment on if it gave me better mileage since I've had it since the truck was relatively new but I like having the ability to monitor various different numbers. I have no complaints with the Edge product and was very satisfied with the tuning from Power Hungry Performance.
