What might the differences be to rate the trucks differently? The only thing I can imagine is the rear SPRINGS, since every aspect of the '69 is "better" than the '66 ('66 is manual steering, manual brakes with drums all around, '69 has PS/PB, discs up front), yet the rating is lower.
The axles are both Dana 60, '66 has 4.11 open, '69 has 3.54 LS.
my guess would be the trans and the rear end gear ratio have something to do with it also. the 4 sp will likely have a VERY low first gear and the 4.11 will make it even lower.

Right you are, it's all about springs. Trans and rear axle have nothing to do with it.
There are SIX different front coil springs with their specific loadrates listed for 1967/69 F250 2WD's. THREE different rear leaf springs with their specific loadrates listed for 1968/69 F250 2WD's.
Three GVW(R)'s based on what the 1969 F250 2WD's MODEL code is: 6,100, 6,900, 7,500 lbs.
Big thing is that the 7500 will beat the snot out of you and chatter your teeth while riding around in it.

I might've thought so, too, but I've been riding around in my '66 for 7 years, many times lightly loaded, and it doesn't seem harsh at all.
So I'm concerned now about my '69, which I intended to replace my '66. I've loaded the '66 with near 3,000 lbs of gravel/rock before, and regularly a full bed of green hardwood. Never bottomed the springs out or got into an "***-draggin" condition. I'm afraid the '69 at 6,900 GVWR is going to be kinda spongy; I suppose some overload leafs is the most straightforward solution?
I don't know...the '69 was kind of impulsive, the '66 really suits my needs more.
I guess the '69 CS would have a softer spring rate because a camper isn't really that heavy, and you'd want a nicer ride?
