Thinking about doing a 4" MBRP straight pipe on my '05, and as usual have some questions.
I've noticed that some come with a 3.5" downpipe instead of 4", are there any differences in performance, or sound between the two?
Is there any difference in sound between the low dollar stuff compared to the high dollar stuff?
I kinda want to stick to the black theme of my truck, since I have black wheels and black bumper replacements, so I was thinking about using a black tip over a chrome one. The MBRP black series look cool, but not sure if it's worth the $600+ dollars they are for a system that you can't even see except the tailpipe.
Is there anyway I can just get the tailpipe, the part that comes just over the rear axle in the black series and just use the regular stuff for the rest of the system?
Also, opinions on the black vs chrome tip are welcome, and thanks for any answers in advance.
the 4 inch is a very tight fit. thats why they sell 3.5 downpipe. i bout a 4 in and had to majorly flatten the back of it to clear firewall.
Go with the black tip
Well, I'm going to pay a shop to do it, so if there's no difference between performance or sound between 3.5" or 4" I'll probably just stick to 4".
I'm wondering if the black tip will look funny from the rear, since you'd be able to see part of the tailpipe and it'd be silver, that's why I was wondering if you can get just the tailpipe to the black series. Does anyone have a picture of the 18" tips from the back? That might do the trick too.

Using a 4" downpipe is gonna require some clearance. On my friends truck we had to use a jack on the firewall, and flatten the pipe. My 3.5" required nothing. If your truck is stock, or even mildly built, a 4" is just overkill.

Not sure! His is a Bank's, Mine is an MBRP. Mine seem's to have a little more bark, but his muffler was bigger. (I run an MBRP muffler)
He actually just put dual's straight out the back, but I haven't heard it.
He also just installed a Powermax turbo, so I imagine his will whistle allot louder too now.
A 3.5" is still bigger than the turbo exhaust, so........
All the 4" is gonna do is create a couple extra hrs of work for you!
Some say they don't have issues though.
I have a 4" black chrome tip on my truck. I was wanting a bigger tip, but this one is perfectly sized. I don't want it to be hugely oversized like you see on some of those Dodges

Really? I figured the downpipe was the 3.5", how big is the stock one?
I won't be running any muffler or cat though, haha.

hope those help
Wow, so that stock downpipe is like 2.5" or 3" huh?
That tip looks nice, I was thinking about doing a 5" or 6" black one, not sure if I wanna get an 18" long one though, might look funny?
That looks really good, I didn't know they made a black chrome tip. Where'd you get it? Also, what size system are you using, and do you have a muffler and cat?
can't find the original seller, but the link above is mostly the same as what I have. they aren't cheap are they?
3.5" MBRP downpipe, 3.5" MBRP Test Pipe (Cat delete), Factory piping/muffler out the back
no real exhaust note to speak of. the muffler pretty much kills all the noise. the cat deletion added a ton of turbo whistle though. I'm going to do a Muffler delete soon and see how I like it. Want to make sure I have $100-200 set aside for a replacement muffler if the noise isn't to my liking though

I see, I've heard one with a high flow muffler on it, not sure what brand it was but it sounded good. Still gonna go with no muffler though.
