When Roland and I did our flush, we didn't jack the front up. We did it on the cement floor in my shop.
I thought about trying that, but it was to the point that I couldn't turn the wheel with the truck stopped, so I was pretty confidant the wife wouldn't be able too.

Mine was like that too....as soon as the new oil got in the system, voila....you could turn the steering wheel......
i had ford do mine a few months ago when they did the oil change. when it went in i was ready to park the truck because i could not turn the wheel below 1000 rpm in my current condition. after i picked it up, i can turn the wheel at idle with two finger on my almost paralyzed right arm.

I/m glad the ford dealer did you right. There's a first time for everybody. I've had real bad luck with that lately. I've been unable to do my own work for a while and haven't like anything they've done.
i had a 99 7.3 come into my shop on friday with a soft pedal and this usually is the fix. id say that 75 to 80 percent of power steering issues i see are related to the fluid, so i can not stress the importance of this flush. later tonight im gonna bring my truck into shop and do this to mine. i have a buddy that wants to film this and post it up so ill keep everyone updated. nice thread and definitely worth a sticky.
I found that I had no leaking when I pinched the end of the drain hose next to the hydro boost nipple and put a towel over the end as I removed the hose.
Almost, but not quite off-topic, but it is equally good to completely flush your brake fluid every 1-2 years as well... this will help minimize corrosion and brake mushiness.

Agreed. I was going to do that last weekend too, but this dang 110° weather really has me wanting to minimize my outdoor time when I'm not at work.
I know this sounds like a stupid question but do the tires have to be on the ground to flush the system completly? Having 15 1/2 inch wide tires that really measure almost 17" wide is a real pain to try to turn the steering wheel when I'm not moving. Can I jack te front end up and flush it with the same results?

Yes you can. Many people do it with the tires off the ground.
