300 vs 7.3
I just got my 2000 F-350 out this week. It's been a bit of a project. It's a dually, six speed with 4.10s. My shake down was hauling about 1000# of Model A parts on the truck and a 66 Toronado on the trailer. 270 miles out and empty trailer back, averaged about 15 mpg. Now that's better than the best my 300 ever got with no load. The 300 was pressed into service 4-5 years ago and was my only truck so I never felt like tearing into it as long as it was working. Now I can and I'm looking forward to some upgrades. I'd like to port a head and swap out the Comp 260H for a Isky Mile-a-more. But first I want to experiment with a couple different carbs on the Offy C. I'm thinking a 2100 or a 2GC. And get some carb heat.
One thing I sure miss is the way that ZF shifts. It had me spoiled and the Ford six speed is a horrid shifting brute in comparison.
