Help with Poor Performance

Bought a '95 Powerstroke with Auto, first diesel.

In the morning it literally won't climb out of the driveway until it warms up (10to 15 minutes) Once warm it drives OK around town but on the highway a 10mph headwind can make it drop from 75 to 65mph.
I'm new to diesels, but it seems to be lacking Power.
Had the OD light flashing so I replaced the VSS. (no luck still flashing)
Had the codes read and they were:
P1748 EPC Fault
P0344 Cam Position Sensor Circuit
P0476 Exhuast Pressure Control Valve Performance

I replaced the CPS as it was something I could do. (no improvement)

So I take it to a diesel specialist who replaced the
ICP Sensor, and also did an oil and fuel filter change.
They checked the Exhaust Valve and said it's working fine.

It's still performing the same.

They also said the PCM is throwing out codes like the Exhaust valve code when it seems fine so they are recommending a new PCM.

They are also saying I needed new injectors ($1900)

Can a bad PCM cause the lack of power issue?

I'm hoping you guys can help me figure this out! Thanks

Well I cant help with everything, but I believe I have seen Nate mention MANY times when it comes to the OD light flashing that you should check all of your brake light bulbs. Apparently a bulb being out (even in the cargo bay on top of the back of the cab) can cause weird things like that. Dont ask me how.. I just believe that is one of the causes.
From my experience the VSS and CPS usually cause more drastic issues like the trans going into limp mode and not shifting right and a bouncing speedometer. Usually if those are bad its a pretty tough drivin truck.

Thats about all I got from what ya gave. You gave a lot, Im just a herpaderp. lol

Exhaust back pressure tube, sensor? a blocked tube maybe? i didnt know it would effect performance though. but needing injectors would effect performance. If you do in fact need injectors, skip the stock replacements. click the site sponsor link above for rosewood he has helped countless visitors to these forums to gain some serious performance. what you need is some live data to see how its performing while running. theres a program out there called autoenginuity
Riffraff Diesel: AutoEnginuity Total Ford Enhanced Bundle
it can get live data from your running powerstroke things that can help figure out whats going on with your truck. or any of your ford vehicles for that matter. its a bit spendy but worth it. I would also check the injector wiring. if your pcm is storing codes, and you get a wait to start etc. its unlikely that you need a PCM. not impossible. just not very likely. You should also change the fuel filter, and clean the FPR screen if you havent done it already. a lot of guys simply unplug the exhaust backpressure valve its the 2 wire plug on the front of the turbo pedestal.

You should be doing your own oil changes. its not hard to do. use quality oil and filters. i had the dealership do the first oil change after I bought my truck, they charged me over $200 for it. (I was injured) Ive done every oil change since and use synthetic oil and FL-1995 filters I never spend anywhere near 200.

1748 is the EPC solenoid....I changed mine 1 month ago.... It controls the line pressure of the transmission ..... you need to replace the solenoid pack assembly.....I paid $ 515 from Ford, but I have seen them as low as $ 300.... E4OD, 4R100 Transmission from PATC, E4OD, 4R100
Could be the Wiring to the EPC solenoid too but , If you do not fix it you can burn out the TC....cam sensor is easy and cheap .....
I would also change trans filter since you have to reomve the Pan to remove the Solenoid pack assembly , and you will nee 15 litres of ATF ( I used Mobil Semi Synthetic ) and follow Mark K's Transmission Flush proceedure....

OD Light

I just spent the day driving around trying to figure this out.
When I start the truck the OD light is off. If I then drive the truck with light
gas petal the OD light stays off and the truck will run fine.
If I get on it and the engine goes over 2800 rpm's the OD light starts blinking and the engine looses power and the trany shifts are different.
Took it on the highway and on hills and as long as the OD light isn't flashing it seems to run OK.

I changed the VSS on the pumpkin after reading some stuff on the Forum, but it did not fix the problem.
What makes the OD light flash?

Your trans is throwing codes making the od light flash and the pcm is making it shift like that when that happens.

There is nothing to figure out ....you need a new solenoid pack or start saving your pennies to rebuild the tranny if you keep driving it ....

^^^^what he said^^^^ I'm not positive on the solenoid pack, not that good with transmissions. Although if you keep driving it, it will for sure need a rebuild

Awitee55,
Thanks, I just checked and the red bulb in the Cargo light fixture is not lighting up.
The bulb is good but no power to the bulb.
I did remove the interior courtesy light fixture, which is right behind the cargo light, awhile ago as it wasn't working, maybe that has something to do with it.
I'll check OD light links to see what I can find out.

Thanks Guys,
I'm going to check into the solenoid pack. Is this something I can do with moderate mechanical skills. Does the tranny have to be removed from the truck, or can I just block it up high enough to work on it.
