Drawbar Adapter

Does anybody make a drawbar to 2" receiver adapter? My truck has a DMI Quic-cush'n II bumper.

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/dCln-k2aMY3WL3stZDuH4tMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedw ebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-PaJbrK0JiT4/TeUgyYe3siI/AAAAAAAADK4/1P6ww6V-ytg/s400/IMG_7595.JPG" height="267" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/100380212418822864516/F25002?authuser=0&feat=embedwebsite">F-250</a></td></tr></table>

In just under a month, I will be moving home from my construction job (500 miles from home) and I may be needing a U-haul to make it in one trip. Looking around their site on vehicle requirements, the ball cannot be mounted any higher than 25" from the ground. At the moment, the truck is home, but I'm almost certain it's higher than 25" to the bottom of the bumper, let alone the top of the ball.

Changing bumpers or adding a receiver are not an option at this time, as is finding a different tow vehicle. I need to find an adapter, make one, or find a rental trailer with an adjustable hitch height.

Any ideas?

Nobody makes an adapter. The draw bar will likely bend because its not designed to handle weight in that fashion.
Why don't you rent the uhaul truck and a wheel lift trailer, and row your truck home

I don't think the draw bar would bend. Going off memory, it's around 1-1/4" thick and almost 2-1/2" wide. Any standard 2" receiver ball is going to have a lower tow rating than the DMI. It's a class V rated at 14,000 lbs towing, 1,400 lbs tongue weight.

I have no intentions of towing large loads with any type of adapter. I'm looking for something that can make low hitch trailers like U-hauls, snow mobile, and garden trailers tow level.

It could be done, but I'm just looking for the simplest solution long term. I'm sure I'll run across more situations where I'm going to need a ball hitch mounted lower than the height of the drawbar. Cost wise, It'd be a wash between making two trips with my truck or paying for a rental truck, trailer, and gas for the rental (I can't work any more hours at my current job than I am now... so for now my time is essentially free).

I think I'll have to find my own solution for making an adapter.

I made one for my truck several years ago, Got a piece of 1/2" cold rold steel steel the same width as the DMI draw bar, put two 90deg bends int to lower the hitch height to level I needed, welded some 1X3/8 flat on both sides from top to bottom level (so it was welded in 3 places), used a grade 8 1" bolt to fasten to the draw bar. Worked good for what I needed.

Is your bumper still usable as a step bumper? If so, perhaps you could just get a step bumper hitch adapter. It would only give you the tow capacity of the whatever the bumper was rated for, but might suffice for what you want.

There are several different ones out there. This is but one example Shop Reese REESE Towpower Class II step bumper receiver hitch at Lowes.com

The bumper itself doesn't have a tow rating that I know of. It's just a chrome face attached to the drawbar hitch. I may be able to attach a step bumper receiver somehow, but I'd have to take a look at the side-to-side locking mechanism again; i think it may interfere with mounting anything below the drawbar. Thanks for the suggestion; i'll look into it.
