I put a edelbrock 1406(600cfm) carburetor on my '77 ford today and noticed that the kickdown rod to the transmission didnt fit. I bought the carburetor used, so am i missing parts? it has a edelbrock performer 400 intake manifold on it also.
k, looks like that will work, thanks! i just got t6he truck running today and noticed that it wont idle. It just stays at around 2000 rpms. i unhooked the liknage to the gas pedal and pryed on the throttle so it will idle but when i let go it goes back to around 2000 rpms, any help? thanks
I have the extension adapter mentioned and will happily send it to you for free as I have hooked up 2 of these Edelbrock's and have been unable to find a use for the part on either truck.
With a solid gas pedal linkage I made my own rod with an offset so it lined up correctly and the cable linkage setup works just fine. I used the 1483 on both carbs.
I suppose I could have used it on the solid linkage setup but I ended up cutting the linkage for the kickdown and changing the alignment of the linkage in relation to the carb. It did not line up correctly even with the extension.

That's good to know. I made my own extension which worked for me but that extension they are selling looked to be about the same length. I never thought it wouldn't work. Thanks for hands-on info!
On mine, many years ago now when I swapped in a 429, I took a 4in end off another kickdown linkage and flattened then half rounded it to fit next to the original linkage. Then I guessed where I would be in the "adjustment zone" and hose clamped it all together. It's been working ever since. Over all it extended it somewhere around 1 1/2 inches IIRC.... I didn't even cut the end off the original; but I doubt I will ever put a 400 back in.
Ok let me go digging. Aahh there they are 14 pages back.
Apparently the 460 was a bit wider with the Edelbrock. The pedal linkage was not a normal thread 10x24,10x32,12x24. I ended up up snagging a few from the JY and putting a custom bend in the threaded rod.
The kickdown was just cut and shoved a piece of round bar inside which fit snug so I could adjust it to where it would activate the lever on the trans at the correct time.
Not scientific at all but it worked. It also allowed me to align it for a straight shot at the carb linkage.
Both work like a champ.
On my 79(390) using the above adapter the tranny linkage fits with no mods but the cable linkage from the pedal is at an angle. Works fine but not straight.
I think I'll add that I just don't like the Edel extension part. I know you drill a hole to keep it from swiveling and going out of adjustment but for some reason it does not set well with me.
Wow. That offset is sick (Meaning "significant"). 'Never seen a linkage as offset as that.. but hey, it works and looks like you took your time figuring it out.

My way is mo betta.

I do remember lifting a bunch of hoods at the JY trying to find the correct one but I'm not so sure one exists. All of the kickdown rods I have seen are the same.
