On my 1986 f-250 5.0 l. EFI
I just had my charging system tested, They tell me the alternator is putting out only 17 amps. And it should be putting out 70 amps. My question is with the alternator not putting out the neccasary amps, Would this cause driveability problems? And if so what kind. Thx so much
This Forum is awesome and has saved me TONS of $
Yes, any time the truck is using more power than the alt is putting out, the difference comes out of the battery. If you do that too long, the battery will be totally drained, and things will quit working, like the headlights, ignition system, electric fuel pump(s), EEC, A/C, etc. And when it dies, the battery will be FAR too weak to crank it.
