I have a 76 crew cab with a 390 and a 4 speed. I am switching over to a 7.3 powerstroke and automatic tranny.
I have tentatively sold my 390 to a guy that is planning on using a c6 auto tranny. Some of his buddies have warned him that the 390 will not mate to the c6.
Can someone verify that a 390 will or will not mate to a c6 tranny.
As mentioned, you have to have a c6 with a matching bolt pattern on the case, But if he's worried about it being out of a manual trans truck, thats not a problem at all. I switched from auto to manual, and everything went together just the way it should. Just make sure to take the pilot bearing or bushing out of the crank or else the torque convertor might hit it.
