Vin decode help

I have a couple of questions about my recent purchase... 2010 F 150 4x4. I tried a vin decoder on the web, but didn't get enough info from it. Basically, I don't know what engine, tranny and diff I have. How do you tell a 2 valve from 3 valve 4.6? The vin is 1FTEX1E8XAFA31485 if anyone can help me out here. I know I can get the diff info from the tag if I really need it.

You can get the diff ratio from the "axle code" on the Driver's door tag. Number and a letter is limited slip. Two numbers is an open diff.

Trans depends on the engine. The 4.6L 2V was mated to the 4spd auto. The 4.6L 3V was mated to the 6spd auto.

Here's the spec sheet from FTE:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/specs/20...d-f-150-1.html

And just because I'm feeling extra special and nice today, I've attached your original window stick in PDF format. Looks like you have the 4.6L 3V and the 6spd auto with a 3.73 limited slip diff.

That about covers it! Thanks for the education. Sure do appreciate it. I didn't ask all the right questions when I was test driving it, and frankly, I don't think the dealer would have known a whole lot without doing some digging around. Now if I can just get someone to shed some light on the two devices up behind the rear view mirror

Two devices?

Do you have a picture of this? If so, post it here.

I'll try to get these shots in here, I don't think I've ever tried before, so who knows???
oh well, can"t figure how to load images here, so I'll post a link.

behind mirror

The one is some kind of an antenna, but there is no blue tooth or sync that I know about. The other has to be aftermarket, looks sort of like radar detector. No branding on it, just some numbers.

The one up high with the antennas is for a remote start. It may be a seperate fob type remote or it could be within your main key fob.

The second looks like it may be the compass etc. ???

Ok, well, that makes sense because it has a remote start. I had no idea the antenna would be there. I tested out the compass idea and that proved true also. I'm sorry, but that really seems like an afterthought by Ford. It seems that they could have integraded it into the mirror.

Thanks bunches for the input.

BTW, I was going to give you some kudos, and I noticed you were from Barlett. My wife's sis and brother-in-law live there. Small world sometimes.

Thanks for the Kudos.

Very small world! I have lived in the Memphis Area all my life and in Bartlett in the same house since 1983. PM me their name, Might just know them. Not likely but it is a small world!!!

Enjoy your truck!
