Carnage update

Had another round of trouble last Sunday. 5 miles from home my HPOP blew up. It was a used 17* SD HPOP that I picked up 4 years ago. Truck stopped dead. Had 5er hooked up as we were heading out camping again. Thankfully, I had my old one back in the shop. Got a ride back for parts and swapped it out on the road. hour and a half later, I was on my way north. 4 hours each way pulling a 32.5' old 5er and no issues. Except for a u-joint which I caught before it failed. Pulled the rear driveshaft and drove the last hour and a half home on the front axle. Got the u-joint changed out now.
Parts on the way. New spring perches for my second spare axle (off a chassis cab) and 4" stock lift blocks and new u-bolts for the rear. Running 2" right now. I had done a shackle flip for the lift on the rear axle before, so I had no lift blocks then.
Hope to pick them up Tuesday.
I'll keep you all updated. As for the HPOP, I'll keep running my old 15* one for now. Will likely upgrade to a T500 terminator Hpop when I find the cash.

Wow, you are having afew problems but it`s good to see you always get them fixed on your own saving afew $$$.
Pardon me but what the heck is a HPOP? I`ve never had any HPOP problems...

High pressure oil pump. Powerstrokes are the only light trucks that have them. The 7.3 and 6.0 have them. Not sure about the 6.4? They provide High pressure oil that drives the injectors. And this is the first time I've heard of this happening.

That is just about to much fun for one trip. I have never heard of many hpop failing but thankfully you had a spare and they are fairly easy to get too.

I think there is a screen on the intake side below the oil cooler that is fragile and fails & may be a problem source. Aren't the 6.4's common rail?

The injectors are not fired with high pressure oil on the 6.4's and 6.7's.

I thought it was only the 2 models. Thanks for the confirmation.
I just got back from 7 hours on the road. Drove the ol' girl down to Minot, ND and back for a load of building supplies. Ran great. Only issue is the old HPOP can't give me quite enough oil for the bigger injectors. Had to back off a bit. That was the reason I got the other pump in the first place, so that was totally expected.

A little OT, but does it pay to drive 7 hours to get building supplies from the states??

In this case, it most certainly did. $1.18/square foot as compared to $2.79 for the same stuff. Yup, worth a little trip.

Lots of people from my area going down to Minot for building supplies, a lot of it is half the price down in the states. Two people from town went together and got their siding in Minot.

Yuuuuuuuup. Very cheap but decent quality stuff down there.

My parents are both getting 60x40 windows for their basements from the States. Much cheaper to just take a trip and grab supplies while you're there than buying directly from the overpriced yahoos in the city...

Precisely. You need to check the prices, but most of the time, it's worth it. A few things have been close enough (when they're on sale) that we'll get them here, but things like siding and insulation are much cheaper there.
