Absolutely right. And there is quite a bit of useful data out there about what temperatures produce the best spray pattern with WVO, the least coking of injectors, etc.

The fact of the matter is, you save enough money running WMO, that you can justify having to replace pumps twice as much. It seems that most people that run WMO have come to term with this.
It's possible that running WMO would make you have to replace your IP twice as frequently, but I haven't seen anyone say that, nor has it been my experience. Do you know of anyone who has taken a new IP and run WMO or WVO from the get-go, and how many miles they got out of the pump?

We already addressed that issue above.

That'd be my $.02 as well. I throw in the quart size bottle each fill-up (meant to treat 100 gallons, but who's counting, really?).

ok gentlemen, we can go back and forth all day about the good/bad of alternative fuels, but thats not the focus of the OP of this thread. yes, alternative fuels have their benefits (minimal cost), and their detriments (reduced component life). the details of these aren't always the same, but regardless of that, the OP doesn't care much about alternative fuels, and guys like me who do check the alternative fuel forum frequently.

for the OP, if you choose to use ATF, a quart in a tank is no big deal. even a gallon in a tank wouldn't make any difference in how your truck runs. the fluid doesn't have anything harmful until its been used, then it has small metal flakes in it just like WMO.
as was mentioned previously, the other additives available are more effective, but i would advise using them at whatever concentration is advised on the bottle.

WVO

The facts I know!!!

I have been running wvo for two years now.

When I started the od read 272,000 miles it now reads 340,000

I changed injectors and pump shortly after I started only because I realized they were factor grey set. I have not changed anything but filters since then.

Best point is. I burn avg of 40 gallons of wvo a week. At current fuel prices of $3.50 around here thats $140 a week. So every 6 weeks wvo pays for a new injector pump and injectors. One years worth pays for a crate engine. So if I only get a couple more years out of them I'm still better off.

Great! Come join us over in the Alternative Diesel Fuels area. I'm really interested to hear about your setup.

I have ran my 18 gallon tank with my half quart of atf in it down allready. It needs to be filled back up and when i do that i am thinking about running 2 stroke oil. I have read some good stuff about this. But why ashless only? How do i know if it is ashless? And will this make a difference in my exhaust smoke?

just diesel kleen, or any other diesel fuel conditioner if you want to add something to the fuel.
i don't add anything, and have 493,000 miles on the truck. the injector pump has been on it now for around 155,000 miles. it is tired, but nothing but diesel fuel without any additives has not hurt it.
