you should be able to direct the heat out of a lot of different vents. If it's only coming out at the windshield regardless of how you set it, something is broken.

Shovelhead, can you be more specific with the problem you have? Is your climate control digital or manual. Do you put it on "vent" with the heat on, but nothing comes out of the vent, just the defrost?

ProjectSHO, ease up. Don't be so argumentative.

I guess I thought it was fairly self expanatory, guess not. When I use the heater it will only blow out defrost and nothing else ie... floor or dash. When I have the air conditioning on I can select various outlet locations. I know that something is probably broken, my concern is what is broken and why would they be on seperate control systems. I would have thought that the heat and A/C would have the same control system as far as direction control of air flow.

Thanks Stewart_H. The truck is an 06 with manual controls, with the heat on it comes out defrost in every position.

Dang, what's up with that? Definitely something screwy going on.

Hopefully some of the gang will have some ideas and post up.

Stewert,

Not being argumentative - just pointing out the folly of asking vague questions without any details that are useful - the most basic of which is "What the heck are you talking about?"

Shovelhead,

with the heat on it comes out defrost in every position.
Okay, this still doesn't make any sense.

You have three primary controls: A blower speed control, a temperature control, and a function/mode selector.

The temperature control should operate independently of the mode selection and should allow you to adjust the temperature from cool to hot. It operates the temperature blend door which either bypasses or admits airflow through the heater core. It should have no effect on the outlet air direction.

The mode selection switch, among other things, controls the position of the defrost/panel/floor door in the plenum to direct outlet air where needed or desired.

Now, please describe succinctly what is happening by using the names of the switches/*****.

There is no issue with the temperature control switch, lots of heat when needed, the fan speed switch and module are fine as well, the problem is with the direction of flow. When I have the heat on and I turn the mode seletion switch it will always default to defrost, if I direct it to the floor it will blow out at the windshield, same thing when I swtch it to the dash vents.
When I am using the A/C the mode selection switch will allow the air flow to go to whatever position I select.

I hope this adds clarity.
Thanks.

2 things I have had happen--some how a pencil/pen got down the defroster vent and blocked movement of the direction door/flap...or...the direction door is not moving because the linkage came off (requires getting down under dash to examine the duct / direction door)....J....

So lets say you have the ac blowing out of the dash vents and you do nothing but turn the **** from cold to hot. What happens then?

When I do that heat comes out the dash vents, but the system gets very loud. It stays coming out the dash vents though.
