I have a 2003 F350 Crew Cab, 4x4, 7.3l. Had some work done recently and asked them to check to see why my electronic 4x4 switch wasn't working. They told me the gem module was bad and that I could replace it myself but would have to take it to the dealership to have it reprogrammed! He mentioned that it was located behind the glove box but I would like to try to confirm this before I start taking anything apart!
I'd do a little more research and be sure that is your problem. Your 2003 doesn't have a GEM anyway. It has a VSM which is above the hump, below the radio. It will have to be programmed by a dealer if you change it.
This mechanic(very reliable and trustowrthy) also told me that if I replace this module that the overhead display MIGHT start working again, my remote keyless entry should start working again and something else.
I'm going to take this and see what I can find. Sounds like it could be something as simple as a blown fuse!
Also, a little bit of info. The mechanic told me that he was getting a code 1342 which indicated that the module was bad! He was telling me that it was a gem module but from what I'm hearing here, there is no such thing on my truck.
