I still have not been able to get my 4x4 low range to engage... and it dawned on me.
The rear gears have been swapped out witb 4.10's... but i think the front gears are factory...
With the difference in gearing is some kind of safety kicking in so low range cant lock in?
4x4 high range seems to at least lock into gear but i havent tried going up a gravel hill or anything yet. I know the passenger side hub seal is blown but it works just fine in manual. Already rebuilt the drivers side and its holding up with no evident signs of leakage. That was an expensive and frustrating day.
What are the chances my low range will engage again when i swap the rear out for 3.73 gears?
To check and see if it was engaging in 4x4 high i switched it and then crawled under the truck and grabbed ahold of the front driveshaft and it was engaged at the transfer case and it felt like it was locked in gear pretty good...
But when i try to engage the low range 4x4 i hear a clunk but it stays in rear wheel only drive... i can grab the front ds and spin it freely.
Low range light illuminates at pre start key on self test... but no light when i try to engage it.
Also... if i try to switch it back to 2wd, or 4x4 high i get nothing at all after i try to go into 4x4 low. I have to turn the key off and start her back up before it will do anything again..
I mistakenly though you had posted another thread about this, I had to edit my reply.
I think the first thing I would do would be to match the front and rear gears. If you try to drive it right now in 4wd the weakest link in the system is going to suffer.
Once you get the gears matched I would probably pull the shift motor and try to shift the t-case by hand to see if it will go into 4low. If it does then you know it is in the ESOF system, if it doesn't shift into 4low then you know it is in the t-case.
With trans in neutral... and foot on brake... i get a clunk but no light... and no engagement of the front driveshaft. When i do put it in gear it feels like it is 2wh. Doesnt act like its dropping into the low gear range. I should notice an immediate difference between 2h and 4h i would think...
Yeah, like... almost can't hold it back with the brakes in drive, dramatic(as you think it should be very noticeable)
There was a thread I remember quite a while ago though about a broken shift fork, seems like it was dan(kwikkordead) I'll have to see if I can find it.
