trans code k

Hello guys. I have an 81 f150 parts truck. Its a 302 and a 9 inch rear. The rear is a 2.75 and a k code tranny. What is it? Its an xlt lariat. Is this a rare combo?

Also add its a 2wd with factory tach. Power windows and locks. 100 percent original. Anyone have pictures of where a gear ratio is on a 9 inch. The one in my black one isnt original and has a bunch of numbers. Would a 275 be good with a mild 460?

You've got rather tall gearing. It's not a rare combo. This is meant so the vehicle can cruise at highway speeds. If you want to put in a mild 460, you'll have to get a "big block" C6 automatic to replace it with, as the bell-housing bolt patterns are different, and you'll also want to swap out the 2.75 gears for something in the neighborhood of 3.55 or 3.73. So you can get the most out of the 460.

Your transmission is also a 3-speed automatic. It doesn't have an overdrive gear.

302's are good car motors or driving around motors. For truck use, you won't find many around here that would want to tow or haul with a 302 as a 302 hasn't got the bottom end torque of 300's, 351s, 400's, or 460's. It just doesn't have a long enough stroke. You can build them up easily enough to have pretty good power, and there are a lot of stroker kits and aftermarket support for them, but you'd be best off starting with a bone-stock 351W over any 302. The 351 Windsor is also a bolt in affair, and you can still use your "small block" C6.

Thanks but i knew the difference witj the c6 bellhousings. I was just wlndering becadr this parts trucj is also in good shape. I was wondering if the tall gears would work well with a small block. I want to rebuild this one anotheer time after my black c6 460f150 is do e
