WOW !!! I was going to post a thread with the same question !
Just got my 2nd oil change today. 15,555 miles. a couple hours later maximum I noticed the ticking sound. very random, goes away, faster sometimes than others, just random. i crawled under it tonight, at first I thought it was from the fan / belt / pullies area, then I thought it sounded more like the oil ( cooler? ) by the bottom rear of the engine where it bolts to the transmission.
but, i will say, it was NOT there before the oil change. I will call ford and just ask tomorrow maybe they see this often.
Edit- I should mention, I just put a AFE Stage 2 Cold Air Intake kit in the truck on Sunday. but the ticking was NOT there until AFTER the oil change.
Does anyone else with the tick sound have an after market air filter kit ?
how come on my 6.4, it is much, much, much more pronounced when it got the latest flash?
Once I got flash updated, I honestly INSTANTLY had louder injection noises, and ticking as well.
If I wanted to make stuff up, I'd think of something better than this BS.
my '11 also has this tick.. doesn't do it all of the time.., like stsmark mentioned, it sounds like a lifter tick..first time i noticed it was on a trip from Phoenix, AZ to ND.. noticed it in Moab, Utah.. I was like, what the ---- is that? and checked under the hood right away..stayed the night at a motel, next day, no tick and I didn't hear it for the rest of the trip..but then i noticed a couple nights ago, it was ticking when I pulled into my driveway and was idling for a couple seconds with the door open..checked again the next day, no tick.. what is causing this?

You may want to go to 6.4 threads as this about the 6.7
There is where your info will be.
Did anyone consider the exhaust fluid injector.I noticed this after I pulled off the interstate for fuel. It will tick about 7 times real fast, stop for about 30 seconds and repeat.

That's a good thought, but it's further downstream from where these guys are saying they hear the tick. Possible I guess, but that wouldn't change after an oil change either.
I remember on the Mustang forums shortly after I got my '11 GT folks were up in arms over a tick that started after an oil change. I never had a reason to care, as I've always figured that cars and trucks make noise when they run. After some discussion here on FTE I remember trying to listen for a tick after I changed the oil in my 2011 F350 with Rotella T5, but I never heard anything different.
I had 2 2011 6.7 neither one ticked. If it's a tolerance issue I would think all would do it. The dealer always changes mine and uses the 10w30 I believe synthetic blend.
I would like to know what causes it on some and not others.

That is an active regen.
It's either the DPF or something in that area that ticks during that process.
This TSB 10-19-2 explains the source of the ticking noise. Because the new diesel engines are so quit, you can now here this ticking noise that was also present in the old diesel models, but masked by the traditional loud diesel rattle.
