Thanks again for all of your help. This has been a great site for all the information and friendly people. I will be needing more advice as time goes on because I want to get my old truck squared away, especially in the body. Again, thanks all!

I did just that. Now I also have to spread it around before I can give any more to the guys who have responded. Thank you for the advice though, I had no idea what those symbols meant!

Plug and play. easiest place is the wrecking yard. The wiring for 1992/up is different. Going and getting the harness first will also show you how it goes back together.

You can also get the optional cargo lamp housing. 1980-1992/(1993 without third brake lamp) that is located outside above the rear window. I suggest getting a 1992/3 as the gasket is better. This will require cutting the back of the cab for the cargo lamp housing. This is optional if not desired.

As was said, there is a 3 wire connector behind the seat, drivers side right at the bottom of the "B" pillar of the cab. You may need to remove plastic trim for access. There will also be a ground wire, with eyelit connector for grounding the cargo lamp. Attach it to the other ground wire eyelit bolted to the "B" pillar in the same general area. The other end of the harness consists of four wires. Two will be in the lamp socket for the cargo light. The other two (for the map/dome lights) will fit into the cab where the light is mounted similar to your original.

The harness contains the wires for:
1: Dome Lamp: Black/Blue stripe (Power from door jamb switches)
2: Cargo Lamp: Black/Pink Stripe (Power from headlamp switch)
3: Cargo Lamp: Black (Ground)
4: Map Lights: Light Green/Yellow Stripe

The Map/Dome lights are connected to the wires using two of it's mounting screws. The wire connectors attach to the cab, and are insulated from the cab as Shaun stated, and the screws complete the connection to the dome/map lamp housing. The dome/map lamp housing is grounded through it's base to the cab with it's third mounting screw.

If the cargo lamp is not desired, remove the bulb, and tape the socket up out of the way, as it won't be used. If you want the optional cargo lamp, you will need to make a template and cut the back of your cab above your rear window. Shaun may have measurements to do it without making mistakes.

I recommend taping the new harness to the old one, and using the old harness to fish it through up towards the top to install the new harness. As was said, a wire coat hanger will work in a pinch.

hope this helps...
Excellent! I don't think I would have gotten a better description from a manual. I am all jacked up to go out and get them going tomorrow. Again Thanks!

Okay, here are the pictures.

This picture was taken looking up into the B-Pillar. You can see the harness running up to the roof panel.

Running down along the B-Pillar:

And then the main connector for the harness.

And finally, the ground wires, which are halfway up the B-pillar.

Fordzilla, thank you so much for the pics. I really appreciate the effort to take them, they will make my installation so much easier. This forum is the best I have seen on any subject, my military ones included. Have a great night, and I will post back once I get the light installed.

No problem! Just take your time, and you'll have map lights in no time.

If you want to add the cargo light as well, let me know and I'll take those measurements for your as well.

Shaun - Let the record show I, for one, have never called you a snot-nosed kid. And after that post I never will. WELL DONE!

Explorer - Your thorough directions were excellent. Wow! Good job as well.

Wish I could rep you two, but I can't as said. However, in the rep scheme mine don't count for much. In fact, the way the system works reps from newbies, who are the very people that need the help, count for nothing but good will - which I find bizarre at best and wrong if what you want to do is to encourage helping them. Anyway, it takes reps from a moderator or someone with a zillion reps to give reps that really count. So hopefully one of those will stop by and knight y'all.

I will be doing something similar when I get to the interior. How's about you take some photos and write up your procedure for this weekend's work?It will be handy for others in the future.

Just saying.

Quick question. How many pictures from my post are showing up for everybody else? I'm only seeing six, when there are supposed to be ten.

Imageshack is pissing me off. I think I reached my free upload amount, and now it's deleting whatever it feels like. I just deleted some useless photos from it, so I'll try to fix them later.

And you're right, there should be 10.

They give you like a month to clean up before they delete stuff.

Go tot he front page (w3 dot imageshack dot-us and click on the My Images tab; if you are near or over your limit, it will say so in read, un-missable lettering.
