Been ignoring an issue on my wife's Expedition. I know, no good...It's a 2003 XLT with the 4.6 and 122K on it. Truck has been great to us. Just time to do some much needed repairs. This issue has been plaguing me for a while..Now my driveway is on an angle..so I thought maybe that maybe contributing to it, but it also does it on a flat driveway. When you go to start the engine, it cranks for a good amount of time before it finally catches. Now I am thinking that maybe it's a fuel pump issue and that it is losing the pressure that is built up so it needs to build up again before firing to the injectors. Would hate to put a new pump in to find out that that's not my issue. Has anyone else come across this issue and what did they do to correct it.
I have replaced the filter...not change...Doing coils and plugs this weekend...I just seemed to be more of a fuel delivery issue, like lost of pressure..

The next time you go to start it try this, without starting the engine turn the key on for a few seconds then off, do this 3 times, then attempt to start the engine. Doing this will help prime the fuel line. If the engine starts easier after doing this key thing, then replace the fuel pump.
Now that's a thought...Duh moment for me..makes total sense..Just like my F-250 SD, the key will turn the pump on, cycle it three times to build pressure..makes total sense...I will give that a shot tonight...if it starts easily, looks like I will be replacing a pump...

You may still have a small leak in the fuel rail, better check that before replacing the pump.
I will definitely check for that, but if I had a small leak, I would assume that I would smell it when parked or show signs of "leakage" on the ground...Will check everything before having to pull that tank down....
