Just got my first oil analysis and as I'm no chemist I have no idea what any of it means. However, the bright green label that said NORMAL made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!
My brother is the operations manager for a large mulch processing plant and gives me the CAT oil samples for free, so that's what I used. I know schaeffers does them for free if you buy their oil.
Blackstone is good for the price. If you're interested, you'll learn more than you ever wanted to know about oil analysis from bobistheoilguy.com. Lots of petrochemical engineers and tribologists hang out over there, it's about the best motor oil forum you could find.

I have heard a lot of great things about that place... I also hear they really like the T6 rotella; and for more than diesels... I plan on putting it in my V12 BMW.
What is your suggestions on what oil to use? I just bought a 1997 7.3 and the owner before used Rotella " I think I spelled that right " lol
Rotella T6... you can get it cheapest at the larger walmarts. It's a full synthetic so it CAN go for 2+years or 15k miles. If you do the oil analysis every 7500 miles or so it will give you good feedback on what the change intervals are for your specific engine.
My engine, while having high mileage, is not used heavily much so I think I can safely go 15-20k miles between changes but I need the oil analysis to see if that is the case.
In my truck it is more likely that I will change on a time based schedule anyway because I only put a few thousand miles on it a year.

Richard
Richard, I dont know that the oil has been checked in this truck. I also won't put but a few thousand miles on this truck. Do you send the oil off somewhere or are there normally local places that do that kind of thing

The T6 was shearing down for me. I switched to schaeffers 7000 and it doesn't. I would never go 15-20 K on oil, even with my FS2500 bypass filter, I don't care what the sample says. IMHO

I might agree with you if i towed like you do but my truck usually runs around empty or a few hundred pounds in the bed...
