it all started about 3 weeks ago. wipers would come on by theirself didn't matter if the truck was running or not., if truck was turned off with the radio on , wipers and radio would come on and stay on .no ryme or reason. the only way i could get them to turn off was to pull the delayed assessory relay, wait 30 min reinstall and everything was fine , then next day started again. then lost wipers alltogether, radio works fine , speedo quit .swapped relay, changed relay , checked all fuzes.
any ideas as to where to look
Sorry couldn't resist. I would look in the harness. Most times when I see failed intermittant items like this it is in the harness somewhere. Especially since so many of the items in cars have voltage on them.... the computer supplies the ground to turn the item on. That is just my gut. Maybe one of the mechanics here will be able to tell you more.
I just looked at the 06 wire diagram
and I think having a copy for your truck
would help you out. There is a lot going on
Like 4 grounds 2 power at-least 1 Computer
and the ABS is feeding it the VSS so it knows how
fast your are going.
If you have an 06 I'll be happy to post up a copy
of some of the diagrams.
I wouldn't be looking so much for water as wear. As the truck goes down the road it shakes. At some pinch point somewhere in the harness the wire vibrates along the frame or a bracket...... slowly rubbing off the insulation..... A year or so down the road the wire insulation is gone and the wire is shorting to the truck frame.... this supplies a ground thus activating the wiper....
