Depends on if you can find a shifter that will attach to the side of the transmission. There are no mounting provisions for one. You'd have to find some kind of generic fits-all type shifter and hope it works.
The one the PO moved on my 57 Chevy truck was hooked up backwards. Reverse was in the top right of the "H" with first being in the bottom right, second in the top left, and third in the bottom left. Maybe that's what kept it from being stolen?
Hey Fordmaan,
What kind of transmission do you have? That's a place to start. The regular 3spd was a side mount and the 3spd Heavy Duty was a top load. I have switched over to floor shifters with the 3spd HD but never found a good setup for the side mounts. Why do you want to get rid of the column shift? Once they are rebuilt and fine tuned they flow pretty good. Just my .02.
On a side note, you might want to change your truck from a 1953 Ford F1 to a Ford F100 in your vehicle list. Ford stopped making F1's in 1952.
