This will either go good or bad but either way her it goes. Im looking into doing a flat black rustolem roll on paint job, My truck is not perfect but right know its half primer and the rest is painted from the factory. My brother suggested that maybe doing what they call a rustolem roll on paint job he says it pretty cheap and its not bad for a project or beater. Im intrested becasue the primer is killing me and If i could do it and it dosnt cost me an arm and a leg i would be happy. Anyone every done this? thoughts?
Go to Macco. They will do your entire truck for about $400. If you take the time to take everything off possible(which you should do anyway), their paint jobs are actually a good quality. Their prep work is what sucks
I just saw my collector friends' 64 Newport wagon that came back from Maaco. He removed all the chrome, prepped, sanded, primed and meticulously masked it himself and then gambled on it. They 2 toned it...teal with a white roof, due to the 2 tone and extra clear it was about 800.00.
Looks awesome. No orange peel, holidays or drips. Hes going to wet sand/buff it himself but I don't think it needs it, looks great (and I'm critical).
He had prices ranging from 4500 to 8000 at other shops for essentially the same thing. There's about an acre of sheet metal on this old boat and his gamble paid off.
I actually did my first paint job this spring on my 73 Nova. I used the Duplicolor paint shop paint and a $15 gravity feed spray gun in my buddies garage. i was actaully very pleased with the results and had about $300 bucks into the paint job not counting body work. I could have done it for less but I went 2 tone, candy apple green flames over a llime green pearl base. I can't wait to get the truck to the point where it is ready for paint. I am thinking candy apple red flames with flat black paint for the truck
Diesel_Brad and LMS Residential are right about Macco. You prep it . They do a good paint job for the money . But it sounds like you want to do a rustolem roller job. I don't know if you saw it but there is a long thread about it on one of the MoPar sites. They cut the rustolem with mineral spirits and do quite a bit of wet sanding. The poster did a Dodge Charger in Orange that does look good.
yea there are but they are not anywhere near me and would not be worth the drive. I have a cheap spray gun I could use and a garage it would cost more but I hear black is a hard color to spray. I figured doing a cheap roll on job would be easier then spraying it, yes more work but I could do it in my driveway. The truck isnt going to be a show truck but i would like a decent looking rig
I have seen that site and the car. I have looked into how it is done. I would have it done professionally but I would be looking at 5000 easily and I know I would never have that money to do the work so im looking at other options. I just wonder if anyone has seen it done and in person what it looks like
Sorry to the op, not trying to hijack your thread, but what's the best way to sand rust, and rough spots in paint? Will a vibrating sander work or just plain ol' fashioned elbow grease?

i use rustoleum red oxide primer, cut 30-40% with acetone and sprayed on.
paint is the same way. rustoleum industrial paint, cut 30-40% with acetone and sprayed on.
