f150 rotors warping!
Help!
I have a 1996 f150 2x4 rear abs with 54k miles, I am on my second set of rotors, and they now seam to be warped! again. has anyone else had issues with the front disc brakes.
I mainly use the truck a transportation to and from work, but will occasonally get a load of dirt, or sand for my yard?
from what little I know of the braking system on the truck I was also wondering if, and how hard it would be to convert the front disc (cheaply) to something a little more robust, I don not have any stopping issues, I just don't like the 400$ for new rotors and pads every year?

I had the passanger side caliper that kept hanging up.
I finally replaced the brake hoses and the hanging up stopped.
Excess heat will affect the brake hoses.
Also, the calipers and pads were replaced by myself. Easily and the cost is not too bad.
Good luck,
Gene

I believe the 4x4 has different rotors than 2x4do. To remove my rotor, you have to remove the cotter pin, pull the bearings, then you should replace the bearing seal, repack the bearings, and re-torque them, I am very capable of the job, but this is my only mode of transport... and I cannot afford down time, or very much $$
I have been reading about people cryo treating rotors!??? and or getting slottd rotor. I am not sure of cost but for my truck a new set of rotors run too much!

I too have a F150 that had problems with warping front rotors. Isolated to two problems. Aftermarket pads were manufactured of too hard a material, went back to factory pads. Also agree with the overtorqued wheel lug nuts warping the rotors. The first lug nut was tightened down by impact gun before the rest of the nuts had been snugged up.

If you use your parking brake you won't have to screw with the rears because they will adjust each time you set the brake.
And yes, OEM pads are best.

well, in a perfact world this is true, but when you put new front brakes on it is always a good idea to make sure that they are adjusted up properly. I know from experiance with many differant vehicals that just using the park brake and or driving in reverse and doing a hard brake application doesn't always adjust them up to where they should be. I had a problem with warping rotors and after adjusting up the rear brakes never had a problem with it again.
Good luck.
Good luck.
