I know you might think this has no place in the Automotive Discussion, but don't forget, the robots DO turn into cars. This is the place to discuss the ongoing battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.
While it's primarily on the movie trilogy, it's also good to talk about G1 and the new series on The Hub, Transformers: Prime.
Actually, they don't turn into cars. Not real cars anyway, which is what the General Automotive Conversation forum is for.
Moved to General Non-Automotive Conversation.
What do you mean by "real" cars? They do turn into cars. Bumblebee turns into a Camaro, Ironhide is a GMC truck, Optimus is a Semi, and Jazz is a Pontiac. Those are real cars.

They don't turn into vehicles, they assume the appearance of vehicles - there is a difference.

After the first Decepticon (Skywarp) is revived, he immediately restores Megatron, who then orders the rest of the Decepticons to follow. The Decepticons find their way out of the Ark, and Starscream blasts the volcano, causing a rock slide that reseals the exit, trapping the Autobots within. The blast causes Optimus Prime to fall into the line of Teletraan I's repair equipment, which results in his revival as a blue and red semi-trailer. After he is restored, he starts the revival of his companions, the other Autobot warriors.
It was a repair protocol that also served to help the Autobots and Decepticons "blend in" with Earth's surroundings - nothing more.
While they could allow passengers to ride inside, they are not "real cars".
Also, in the original comic, Bumblebee/Goldbug was a Volkswagen Beetle and Jazz was a nondescript racecar. In fact, many of the Transformers were nondescript/generic - Bumblebee was one of the very few that had a recognizable appearance as an actual vehicle (Ironhide was another one as he had the appearance of a '72 GMC truck.)
The only reason they all appeared as GM's in the movies (except for Optimus Prime, who assumed the appearance of a Peterbilt 379 and also those that had aircraft appearances) was because of the $$$ GM contributed to the making of the movies.
Yeah, I went through a Transformers phase at some point in my life...
I don't have a dog in this fight , But I do believe I saw the First movie 1976 Camaro (bumble-bee) sold at auction on the show Hollywood Treasures this season. I may be mistaken but, It looked alot like a car to me even had the remote control drive on it and the C.O.A. from the studio. Also the New Camaro was a prototype G.M. let them use to promote the car before it was released. In the story line they may not be cars but regardless of how you look at it, they are real cars in the Movie. See there everyone was right. Now get over it. Lol.
