I was at the lake all last week for our anual family fishing trip and on Friday morning my wife and I were heading out crusing along at 30mph when all of a sudden the boat litterally came to a screeching hault!
As soon as It happened I was trying to figure out a way to get rid of the Chevy engine and drop in a real one!!! As it turns out it was the leg than seized up. Apparently I have been changing the oil in the leg wrong and for the last four years I have been running the leg too low on oil, so I have no one to blame but myself .
I ordered a reman leg for $1500 with 3 years warranty, here I was thinking I was done boating for the season but now it looks like it could be ready for next weekend. One expensive lesson learned.
that leg oil change is a dumb system...who decided it was a good idea to fill it from the bottom until it ran out the top? Easy enough to make that mistake....
Ya, I didn't realize that you had to fill it up to the top hole because it just said "vent" on the leg!!
On another note, I sure love the way that Ecoboost can pull. The old 5.4l doesn't even compare. Mileage pulling is the same if not a little better, I got 11mpg pulling both the camper and boat(at least 11,000lbs) to the lake and back.
is that hand calculated? I got quite worse than that on one of our trips to the mountains. I was only towing a light aluminum 2-place trailer with 2 sleds...whole thing only weighed 1600lbs...
