i have troubleshot this all night. i bought one coil pack and changed one at a time. the problem is still there. i changed the plugs around 90,000 miles. it was doing it before and after. i just put a 6 inch lift and same tires just heavier and it does it even harder. still around 45-50 mph. it feels like my truck is about to fall apart. please help.
sorry, not real sure when your having this "shudder" is it only while driving, at idle, high speed, maybe a specific gear only. Does it get worse the faster you go. does it go away after a certain speed. anything else will help us.
when im in OD around 45-50 and i slightly press the gas peddle. it shakes like crazy. i just tried the trick someone said about when it starts lightly tap the brake and see if it stops. well it doesnt. it just keeps shakin until it downshifts into 4th. then its all good. my engine light came on. flashed a few times and then went away. so i pulled over and grabbed my diagnostic tool and no codes. im stumped.
Sounds like a tranny problem. Almost like the converter is locking and unlocking under load.
They make stuff in a red bottle called shudder fix. About 14 bucks. Throw that in your tranny and give it about 20 miles. Still kicking around it's either not your tranny or something more serious.
When I flushed my tranny it did the exact same thing shifting into second gear. Scared me pretty bad. Put in the fixer and everything has been great.
Maybe your drive shaft u-joints? just crawl under there and grab it if it moves more than a little, you have a bad u-joint.(check both ends) a little movement on the yoke end (front) is normal. Any in the rear is not good.
Also I remember a TSP about a problem with the rear e-brake shoes grabbing and doing something similar. but what your describing sounds a little worse.
How many miles, what year, 4x4?
well then check the front drive shaft too. Have you ever gotten the tranny flushed. Friend of mine had his tranny go out at 114k and never did a flush.
never had the tranny flushed. got a friend that works on cars and he said its a bad idea to flush if you havent had a routine on it.
my owner Manual says 30k flushes under "severe conditions" so I do mine at about 35-40k. but I only have 78k, so we will see if it helps.
What does he mean routine.
Its not a trans problem, the truck is misfiring. You need someone with a scan tool that is capable of reading power balance. Just because the plugs have been changed doesn't mean they are all good. I have had a few motorcraft plugs not fire right out of the box. You will damage the cat if you keep driving it while misfiring. The CEL flashes because the conditions are right to damage the cat.
i drove with the OD off today. so its only happening when OD is on. i am gonna do a full tune up. change plugs and COP's and fuel filter. i have the roush intake so i dont need to change that. i dunno maybe somethin will fix it.
