another option would be an add a leaf for the rear springs, when i installed my lift kit from pro comp this was what the kit used to raise the rear. you might check to see if any local spring shops can re arch your springs. for the front end alot of people on here run the x code springs. i dont have any experience with these but have not read any bad complaints.
Are you sitting on the overload spring when hooked up? Both ends of the overload or just one end of the overload? Is this a bumper pull or gooseneck trailer?
My dad pulls a 40' livestock trailer that can get up to 17,000 lb loaded, he replaced just his overload springs with heavier springs so he kept the stock ride quality when not towing.
I have rode in a few trucks with air bags and they ride nice and sit nice loaded. The last one I rode in was a very extreme but nice setup, it had onboard air, leveling valves, and dump valves just like a big rig setup.
Gonzo---That is the Airbag setup I have just like you are saying and will say it rides great and when not loaded I keep about 5psi in them and it seems to ride smoother than with no air not sure why but love the ease of use they have.
With all the truck makers competing to have the best towing truck on the market I am surprised that nobody has tried factory air bags. Leaf and coil springs have been around since horse drawn buggies and they have some definite flaws. I am waiting for a car maker to come out with the next great suspension that will ride good both loaded and unloaded.
Jake, the truck I was talking about they actually removed the leaf springs and had just the bags and a 4 link. The problem was he had a bag spring a leak and couldn't drive it. I think add on bags to the factory leafs or using a single leaf with bags is the way to go. Using the levelers and onboard air is a great setup so you don't have to manually fill the bags every time you hook up to a trailer, but even the add-on bags are a great option for someone who tows.
Gonzo, I geuss I didn't catch the part that there where now springs wow that is gutsy what do they call them vehicals that lean to one side a pimp ride lol.... But no my truck has the leafs still in the back with leveling air bags and I love them with the onboard air. You would only think that ford chevy or dodge would do something like that...I geuss time will tell.
