My best friend, card buddy, and father, had a stroke last week which has been hard on our entire family. He has been making progress, but it appears that he won't have any mobility in his left leg and left arm, he does however seem to be able to communicate through hand movement, etc on his right side and appears to be processing information, as well as recognizes our voices....still waiting for him to "wake up" though. He has always been my wrenching buddy and support network for all things mechanical, and has always been the guy wearing the white hat...
Thanks for lending an ear on this one.

Im sorry to hear this.
Miracles do happen, your dad himself is a miracle, but the good guy upstairs may help him recoup his strength.
Hang in there big guy.
I was in the same position a little over 20 years ago. Man could fix anything and I turned to him for help and companionship. Unfortunately, my dad was non responsive and ended up passing 3 months later. Since your dad is responsive that's a really good sign. They've come a long way in helping stroke patients.
Hang in there and keep talking to him, he can hear you. It's also nice if you could have another person in the room and have 3 way conversation. Keep him up to date on current events. His body might not be too responsive right now but I was told by the nurses the patients know what is being said and they know what is going on around them.
Thanks for the kind words, he really tries to communicate when I start talking shop with him, the doctors have been great and have been telling us that he is moving in the right direction....
Now's the chance for you to be what he needs... give him all the focus you can and trust him to try to get where he wants to be. They truly have made great strides in treating strokes.

Thoughts and prayers for you and your Dad. My Mom stopped breathing in my car back on February 15th and was put on a respirator by the time I got her to the emergency room, nobody could tell us at the time if she would survive.
Last week, I took her for a Doctors appointment and the cardiologist was amazed how well she was doing. Miracles happen everyday so you can never give up hope.
Thoughts and prayers heading your way. Keep a steady vigil at his bedside and keep talking to him. It doesn't matter about what. He might not be able to respond but he can can hear ya and it will do some good.
