Hey guys, I was wondering what you all think of the different truck configurations out there. Crew Cab Long Box obviosly is what I have, and also what i love, but do any of you see drawbacks to the full sized trucks? What are the pros and cons? Just interested to see what the opinions are! I know that personally after having the luxury of the full length truck i could NEVER go back.
Last 2 Super Duties have been crew cab long wheel base. Wouldn't have it any other way. For my application the extra bed length just makes what I use the truck for so much easier.
SC/SB is ok, I'd prefer a SC/LB but sometimes you can't argue with the number the dealer puts on a truck. The short bed isn't a problem for most aero-nose goosenecks, or if you get a sliding 5ver, the biggest pain is in the fuel tanks. There's a 60 gallon option for the new CC/LBs, double what I have and ~33% more than the biggest 47 gallon I could put under it.
The long bed would come in handy during vacation time for sure but for the rest of the time I don't want it. I have a trailer for hauling larger stuff and it much better suited to hauling loads than the truck bed.
Biggest downside I noticed (on the 99'-04' trucks) is as the wheelbase increases the turning radius also greatly increases. My dad has a CC SB 03' and I have SC SB 04'. The turning radius between the two is more than you may think. I can turn my truck quite a bit tighter which can be very helpful.

Totally agree there. Sometimes it would be nice to have a crew cab and/or long box, but when the price is right you don't complain. Mine had been sitting on the dealer's lot for a while and they wanted to move it, so they had a great price on it. They gave me a decent offer for my trade, I told them give me another $500 and they had a deal, and they did. I have a trailer to haul stuff that won't fit in the bed anyway, which gets used often because I took up another 20" of the already short bed with a tool box.
I also have the cc long bed and would not have it any other way. I also love having the long wheelbase for towing, especially when the trailer is 30' or longer.
Depends on what you do with your rig. A crew cab long box is impossible to turn around on narrow forest roads, and gets hung up too easy. Having to log out a turn-around gets old real quick.
A crew cab short box is the max for serious woods work.
I work in the woods, too and NEED an 8ft bed to do the things a pickup bed was made for. So for me, giving up room in the cab was the choice that made the most logical sense. I love my regular cab longbox.
