I'm always hesitant to buy a salvage yard cooler for anything. For all you know the truck it came off of grenaded the trans and now there's all kinds of crap in the cooler.
Yes, remove the old one, you will lose a few ounces of trans fuid. Install the new one. the kit comes with the push through cinch typw mounts. I have used them with out any issues an many vehicles. The kit comes with 4 square rubber pieces. Stick these on the back of the new cooler so it doesn't rub on the a/c condenser. Loose your radiator fan shroud so you can put your hand between the fan and the radiator. push the 4 plastic rods slowley through the cooler the condenser and the radiator fins. Put the small round plastic hold downs onto the back of the plastic rods till they are tight. trim off the excess plastic rods. reinstall radiator shroud. Install the rubber hoses from the new cooler to the trans cooling lines. Start engine, check for leaks and check trans fluid level
that's the one i run.works very well.comes with what you need, though you want to keep it away from whatever you put it in front of so there is a gap.so id toss the plastic tie things and just rig up your own metal brackets.
Can you post a picture from farther away? I would like to have a more clear idea of were to mount it.
found this one, when i was installing fog lights.i had her stripped down ready for the body shop for repair and fresh paint.should be what your after.
as far as exact custom made brackets.you just hold it up there, and see what you have kicking around that can be bent to work.
that one you linked to from jegs is good too.wouldn't be surprised if it was by b&M or perhaps same exact cooler anyway.it doesn't take much to cool an auto trans with a locking converter.them days are long gone since the c6.
remember ideal trans temp is 175.it's very easy (and often done) to over cool 'em and be too far below perfect temps.
she's got a min operating temp just like your engine.always best to install a trans temp gauge first.many people don't need aux coolers.
I already have some sort of generic cooler (and fin and tube at that too...) and I'm very sure it isn't doing the job, we get +82 most of the days around these parts, and things get really hot very fast, so overcooling isn't a worry to me.
