53-56 Floor Mat

Just a heads up for anyone that may be interested.
Back in May, I think, someone did a post implying that these floor mats were no longer being made or were not available. I can not find the post again so relying on my memory. As I needed the floor mat for my 54 M-350 this had me concerned so I ordered one from The Old Car Centre in Langley, B.C. They said they didn't have one in stock and would have to order it. About 3 weeks later it arrived along with some other items I ordered. As it is quite obvious that T.O.C.C. sells Dennis Carpenter products I have to assume that the floor mat is a Carpenter repo so should be available from anyone that sells his product. The floor mat has no markings to indicate who made it or where it was made. Although the mat seems to be of decent quality and was advertised as exactly as original it seems to be a lot thicker and doesn't look like anything I remember as far as pattern is concerned. Perhaps Canadian floor mats were not exactly the same as the U.S. ones. All things considered I think I will be quite happy with what I got.
I hope this info is of use to someone.

I read that post too. About three weeks ago I went to the Back to the '50s car show in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Dennis Carpenter had a display both set up with floor mats displayed. I asked the rep about the availability of floor mats. I was told that there had been changes and their new supplier was making better, thicker mats, and they are available. I don't know if the design is anything like original, but it did look like a good mat.

That was probably me in a thread from an Aussie wondering if he could get mats in LH drive. When I went to Mid-Fifties back in January/February I was told they were no longer available and didn't know when they would be made again as the mold used by the supplier was defective and wasn't clear on when or if they would replace it. I was told by Sacramento Vintage Ford they were looking for a new supplier. So it's good to hear that one has come through and they are available again.

Do you have a picture of the one you just received?

I would also be interested in seeing what you previously had.

I know that Chuck Mantiglia sells these mats also. You might check with him at Chuck' Trucks for pictures, unless he comments here. Stu

I just looked, Chuck's Trucks catalog is a B&W photo copy of the Dennis Carpenter catalog.

Hi Guys ,
I took some pics of the mat last night but as I don't do this very often I can't figure out how to get the pics from my computer to Photo Bucket. I have hand written notes on how to do this and have done it before by following my notes but can't get it to work this time. I will try to do it again later and if it doesn't work I'll phone some one for some help. Patience please.
I also tried to weigh it on my bathroom scales which wasn't easy either but came up with between 12-15 lbs. Seems fairly heavy. Measured the thickness with calipers, it varied quite a bit but the thinnest area was .125 in.
Hopefully be back later with the pics.

1953-56 MAT

Here is a scan of the brochure for the new 1953-56 mats. The pattern is exact of original, and the new mold doesn't have all the cracks in it that the old one had. One by one, Dennis Carpenter is bringing all of the truck mats back. New molds have to be made for all of them. I'm working with Dennis on the 1948-52 mats. We will finally have exact of original mats available. (The ones that were previously available were a lousy copy of a 1960's replacement style).

53-56 Floor Mat

I forgot to mention that there is no cut out for the floor shift. This is the only thing I don't like about this floor mat. I know I will be a little nervous when the time comes to do this. As far as I know these trucks never had a gear shift boot so the hole will have to be very accurate. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong-please. Also if anyone has a suggestion as to how to get the location exactly right please reply.
Thank you.
