i recently went to look at a truck, it is a 1995 f250 with a 460 and a 5 spd. the truck has 224K, do not know if original or not.. truck has reportedly been sitting most of the last 5yrs, body is in fair condition. upon start up, no oil smoke. however, does smell as though there is an antifreeze smell (could be from sitting?) had the dana 50, 3.55 gears. power everything. asking $2250.. what do you guys think? worth it? (i have spare 460, 5spd, front and rear diff. )
With that many miles, unless its all been gone through, I wouldn't pay that. That 460, if its really at that mileage, is at the end of the line. The 5 speed should be smooth shifting, no grinding, if not then call him on it.
also, if it sat for 5 years, I can't believe it doesn't smoke, rings should have been pretty well set at that point. But with only that knowledge, 2 grand id offer him. Its pretty we'll used up.
When we went to go look at it, the guy wasnt even there. he said, "the keys are in it, unhook it from the trailer and call me back to tell me what you think" we ended up getting some info from the mom, and she had said that about a year ago the truck had made a long journey from across state (before hand she said it had been sitting at its previous location for about four years) and has been splitting its time between sitting, and being used for odd jobs. and upon start up we paid attention to the exhaust and saw nothing.
I paid a grand for a 92 F250 with 265k miles, great mechanical condition, 351w, auto, and 4x4. I would not pay that much for the one you are looking at unless the body is in pristine condition. Mine was rusted out pretty badly but excellent mechanicals.
So, Realize it has been awhile sense this started. But i have sense put close to 5K on this truck, Only changing tires and a water pump.. And i love this truck. Great in the mud, and enjoyable to play in the snow. Lacks a little power pulling an enclosed trailer. But again it has 229K.. Ford.. Great Trucks!!!!!
