So, I know about the ford 360 can be swapped with rods, crank, and pistons to make it a 390. I wanted to make it a performance motor with Thumpr cam, edelbrock manifold, holley 600 cfm carb, and advance timing. I heard the ford 360 had weak connecting rods is that true?
Stage 1
14x3 open element air cleaner housing and open element air cleaner (K&N or equivalent)
Stage1.5
Improving the exhaust because the rest of the mods will build on its foundation.. full length headers and dual 2.25- or 2.5-inch mandrel bent system through free flowing mufflers. Brand? Your call.
Set timing to 8 to 10 BTDC.
Stage 2
Dual plane aluminum intake manifold - Edelbrock Performer 2105 and a 600- to 650 cfm carb. Use one-inch phenolic spacer to preserve torque down low where it counts and to keep heat away from the carb.
Stage 2.5
Camshaft...Edelbrock PN 2106...idle to 5500 rpm.
Stage 3.. open your wallet!
Build it to a 390 or 445 stroker with 10:1, forged pistons, headers, 2.5-inch exhaust, use a Performer RPM intake PN 7105, a 750-cfm carb, and Edelbrock Performer RPM cam PN 7106.
Not sure what it takes, i would make it a 410, iirc it uses the 360 rods 428 crank and 390 pistons or something like that, but i cant remember. A bit of portwork and either 427 or 428 valves would help too.. but im not much help, sold my 390 when i was like 17.

410 = 390 rods, 410/truck 390 pistons, and 410/428 crank with matching flexplate/flywheel (410/428 externally balanced).
Alternatively, Scat/Survival offers a 3.98 stroke crank (410/428 spec) that is internally balanced, so the near-extinct 410/428 fly/flex aren't needed, factory 360/390 items can be used.
