I was leaving my friends house last night and hit a giant manhole cover with the passenger side wheels. It was enough to make my *** come off the seat even with my seatbelt on. I'm pissed he didn't warn me about it but thats besides the point. My truck was pulling pretty hard to the left afterwards, but after driving around a few miles it seemed to straighten itself back out. The only issue now is the steering wheel is slightly to the left when I'm going straight (maybe 5 degrees off center). What exactly do you guys think happened, and what needs to be adjusted? I'd rather not pay $100 for an alignment when it was perfect prior to this.
I was driving on a dirt road in a construction site when my front passenger tire fell into a trench that was soft from recent rain. It hit hard- and left my steering wheel off-center (a lot more than 5 degrees though).
Took her to the alignment shop a while later and got the bad news... bent the tie rod from the steering box to the axle, and damaged the internals of the steering box. Not a good day.
Hopefully yours will be fixed with just an alignment...
If your steering wheel went crooked, a visit to the alignment shop would be a good idea.
So would a visit to your local tire dealer to have your tires rotated and balanced. I've hit some things that are too big to be classified as potholes. I chased some uneven tire wear for quite a bit until I found one of my aluminum factory rims was warped (I run centramatic wheel balancers so I never felt a vibration)
