Do PATS Keys Die?
First , I'd like to thank everyone for all the things I've learned from here. Especially about the PATS. Because of this I have a spare key hiden in the truck. My Daughter took My 03 F150 to Delaware for the weekend.( I live in Philly) She called sunday nite saying the truck won't start. I could hear it cranking & asked if the THEFT lite was flashing. She said yes, So I told Her where the spare key was & 3 minutes later I heard the truck start.
Do These keys have a shelf life? It was a Ford logo key I bought from epay over a year ago. I have another that still works.

Now you have a spare key to open the doors when you lock your keys in the truck.
My brother had an 03 F150. He told me 3 times over a couple of years he'd start his truck in -30F weather, get out, run in the house, come back after 5 minutes and the doors would be locked with the truck still running. He had a spare key made for those special occasion's. I later found a tsb for another Ford model stating moisture in the doors key lock switch may cause the issue. He sold the truck, for new, before I could take the switch apart to verify.

Talking about keys here-
I had a key made at ACE Hardware thats a 'ilco EH3' it says Contains Replaceable Battery. Its not one of those combo fob/key, its just a key. How weird, now i got an eventual dead battery/no start condition to deal with? Should of had it made @ dealer.
