460 Engine Build Steps

I have a 460 motor from a 1976 T-Bird I want to build for my 79 F-350 4x4. I want this to be a towing/hauling/ street power motor. This is my first engine rebuild and would like to know the first steps in the process with a machine shop. I know this is alot to ask but would the first thing to do is to take the block into a shop and make sure it is OK to rebuild? This motor ran before I pulled it from the car but I only bought the car to get the motor so it only ran enough to get onto my trailer and off and into my garage.
Thanks!
Craig

Tear it completely down, take the block and crank to a shop and have them check cylinder bore and crank journal measurements. That'll determine what needs to be done in the rebuild.

Just make sure to shop around before you take your things to a shop. Ask all the questions you can think of. If they aren't willing to try to answer your questions over the phone then they are a waste of your time.
