I just don't get it! Last night I was camped down at the bottom of a hill. Even my wife was worried about me getting out of there. That night we went to dinner and I took it out of tow mode and put it into economy, which I hardly ever take it out of tow mode. I forgot about it and the next morning we took off and I went up that hill in great fashion. I wasn't blowing that much smoke like I usually do and my EGT's seemed better. Half way up the hill I remembered that I had it in economy mode but I just left it there. I recalled Neal having his best run on Beans dyno in economy mode. I left it there for 700 miles and was impressed. I had what I've wanted for a long time, a haze of smoke and EGT's under better control. I still had power left to spare, in other words I still had to back out of it to keep it under 1,200* but it felt so much better. I've tried it before but I didn't really give it a chance before going back to tow mode. OK, what is the deal, why is economy mode acting better the tow mode? By the way, I was pulling the 16K 5er.
I've got a Beans chip. After several reburns they got the chip as good as they can without live tuning, I guess. Maybe after a better turbo I'll go back to tow mode and the EGT's and smoke will be better with lots more power, LOL!
OT Mike, I used the ac all day without problem. I guess letting some freon out, by accident, helped but I'm sure I'm on borrowed time with it.
Glenn, my economy tune on my php was terrible imo, so when I sent it to Jim to reburn it, had him remove it. Honestly, I pull my 5er in 140 tune all the time. Heck, only time it leaves 140 tune is to go to high idle..
That's a good question Pete. Probably six years ago I had Beans do some baby injectors (130cc's). When I called up all the cups etc. were good but later got a phone call saying they were all trash. I complained about it and Beans split the difference with me. The way I can pour solid black smoke out if i want I believe I have at least stage 1's. Next winter before I upgrade turbo's I'm sending them in to JR and have them gone thru and I'll know for sure what I've been driving with for 100K. I think of it this way, they switched babies at the hospital, LOL.

Live tuning and a dyno would sure be nice.
I like the shift points in my tow mode is why I always leave it there. Now after yesterday's performance I'll leave it in economy mode. Still got lousy mpg though, LOL. Beans told me I could have a free dyno run if I would go that way. From AZ it would be almost straight east and then almost straight north to see my daughter at Omaha. I'm very tempted next year to do that. I got 422 miles to go to Michigan, in the woods there I sure hope I can get a signal in the trees for my internet or you guys will really miss me !!
This is totally Off Topic (then again, that's what we do here isn't it?), but where are you headed in MI, Glenn? My wife's family is from Michigan and we have spent some time up there camping, and vacationing. It is some nice country for sure.
I have heard a lot of guys say that their Economy tune is their best one. Not sure why that would be, unless it has something to do with fuel curves and timing...
Would it be out of the question to contact Beans and have them look up your order and tell you what you have? You will want to know for sure what injectors you have before you size a turbo to go with them.
Yeah, Glen, whereabouts in MI?
If you are cruising through North East Ohio let us know.
I'm only about 3 hrs from Detroit.
haha if hes at all smart he will be FAR FROM Detroit. lol
Sadly Im not at school in Toledo so Im not on the way for ya Glenn either...
Would love to see that rig with the 16k 5er going by on 75! lol
BTW, I love my econo too.. I have yet to have it re-burned, but its the only 'canned' tune that I feel shifts right, gets good power, and doesnt kill my TC

I like the shift points on my 140 tune as good as any. I really do notice more lately that a trans is not long away though.. I may have to figure out how to do that this winter. I'm gonna talk to my trans guy next time at the track about building mine for me with some racer x parts. Now that I know Jim deals them parts, I can just go through him to get them.
Have you tried the high hp tune? Just asking, I'm wondering how it works in that tune for you.
I've towed in all of my tunes now, including my drag race tune. LOL It shifts perfect in every tune no matter if I'm empty or loaded.... Oh wait, that's me doing that part.. Ha!
As far as your econo tune pulling better than the tow tune, I'm not really sure why without knowing how much fuel is being called for, timing differences, ICP, etc. I'm sure the econo tune is calling for a little less fuel. Maybe a little less timing. Some econo tunes even call for more timing than other tunes.. So who knows.
Tony's tunes, but mine feels weak on Econo. Starved for fuel. I hardly ever use it. When I do, I am going in for the "Snap test". Never a worry in Econo.
Someday I'd love to switch it over to Tow as I floor it out of the parking lot....
