A/C Comp. not working

1992 Aerostar 4.0L
The compressor will not come on with the A/C switch but worked fine when I connected a jumper wire to it. I wanted to know if the system has any pressure switches in it or anything else that might keep the compressor from operating. Also, where could I get a "good" wiring diagram that could help me track down this problem. Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction.

A/C Comp. not working

Yes, there is a low pressure switch on the accumulator, the cylindrical looking affair on the firewall between the blower motor and fender. Disconnect the two wire connector at the accumulator and jumper across that. If the compressor operates then either the low pressure switch is bad or the system is low on refrigerant and needs recharged.
